Athletic Training at Iowa Physical Therapy

Seb is observing and assisting physical therapists with patient evaluations and treatments. He is also able to learn how treatment plans are developed and how to progress patients. These patient care experiences are in addition to the office tasks and general communication with doctors, family members, coaches, and other stakeholders that are part of a patient’s treatment.

About me

  • I’m very eager to learn more about how physical therapy works, how to deal with specific patients and apply what I’ve learned in the future when I get my own job in this field.  I strongly believe that serving people is my calling, especially in caring for injuries, and decided to pursue that in hopes of one day becoming an athletic trainer in the years to come. Currently, me being an SMA, I love what I do as far as interacting with student athletes and making sure they feel trusted and welcomed as that is one thing I appreciate when I walk into a training facility. In addition to that, getting the opportunity of working alongside amazing certified athletic trainers and using specific rehab techniques to make sure athletes get back to their sport in a safe and proper manner.

What I hope to get from this internship

Making sure that I'm worthy of gaining people’s trust, as it is something that is earned through hard work and being transparent. Also, learning new rehab techniques that I’ve never learned before and getting more hands on experience, which is critical for what I aspire to be. In addition to that, establishing new relationships with patients by making sure that they feel safe and comfortable when they come in to work with them.
