Week 7:
University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics
March 8, 2013
So I’ve hinted at this for a while, but the four buildings at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics (also known as Carver College) are all connected by a series of underground tunnels. Here are those tunnels.

Summary and thoughts: As for actual work, this week was not much different from the rest. There was certainly more variety (thanks to the Calarge lab), but much of this past week was the same as the rest. With one notable addition, that is. On week 3 I mentioned having to do a literature search and being pretty far-along in the search (assuming I understood what a literature search was). On the plus side, I was correct in my definition of a literature search: that is, a list of scientific articles that cover a specific topic, often with some additional information thrown in. However, not only did I underestimate how much work exactly goes into a literature search, I also neglected to realize that “clinical” and “medical” populations are different (“clinical” referring to mentally-related medical conditions and “medical” referring to any non-mental medical condition, such as diabetes or cancer). And while this made my life much more stressful than it needed to be, I felt like it was extremely beneficial, as a literature is search is not only something that will be found in almost any grad school experience, but it is also on such a larger scale than anything I’ve done or probably will do at Cornell.
