Week 3:
Tech Week and Previews!

I can’t believe I’ve been here for three weeks already; time truly does fly when you’re having fun! CRT company could not be anymore impressive, supportive, and loving.

When I tell you that the locals of Creede, CO are the most kind human beings on this earth, just another example of that was when the Creede Community Church invited the entire CRT company to a tech dinner that they cooked and provided themselves. There was spaghetti and meatballs, these super BOMB breadsticks, pastas, cakes, etc; everything was delicious. I absolutely love the Education Director of CRT, Brittni Shambaugh; I sat with her at the dinner and she’s hilarious. She’s in the collage below, the top right little square wearing glasses! Caitlin brought her cute little baby (unfortunately I have no pics of him) and he’s a real treat too!

So far we have been in tech week for Peter and the Star Catcher for a little under a week, and our first preview show will be tonight at 7:30pm! This preview will be for the donors and people who have contributed to helping CRT thrive in the way that it does. Everyone has been working incredibly hard to make this show as amazing as it can be. Despite all of the obstacles that have tried to come in our way (and trust me, there have been a lot), the entire CRT company has been dealing with everything with such professionalism and grace.

Our tech rehearsals have been fun, but super long and tedious.  There’s been lots of repetition of running scenes, dances, and blocking as light cues and sound cues are set. Sometimes, I won’t make it to the stage at all within 4 1/2 hours of being there, but I really enjoyed sitting and watching everyone.

Oh man, and seeing everyone in their costumes is so awesome and just ties the show together. The costume team (the shop head, cutter draper, the first hand, the stitchers, the wardrobe crew) are SO talented! They grabbed me a costume (TWICE) without even measuring my body and everything fit perfectly!

Unfortunately, as tech week progressed; literally the day before Peter and The Star Catcher opened, I had to be withdrawn due to health reasons. It was very disheartening and sad for me, but in theatre, you must be a reliable body, and if for any reason you are not, you’ll have to be replaced; it’s just the reality of it. Cornell’s Theatre department taught me that. In the first show that I was cast in at Cornell, I had an accident that prevented me from moving forward in the show and I had to be replaced; I was hurt both physically and mentally, but I’ve learned that no matter how much you want something, taking the time out for healing your body should come first.

The end of tech week is my favorite part of a show’s process because this means that the hard part is over and now the performing can begin. In other words, everything we’ve done is going to FEEL worth it!!!  Even though I won’t be performing in Peter and The Star Catcher, next week starts Little Shop and I can’t wait!
