Hi all, I hope all your weeks are going great and that you are staying safe! To start off we got great news this week that Cornell will be opening back up for fall semester. This is exciting information, in my opinion, I have missed the feeling of being on campus, sitting in the Commons or the outdoor spaces, studying in the library, interacting with my dedicated professors, seeing my peers, and all the chunky squirrels on campus. I know everything will not be the same on campus when we arrive but I am excited to go back to the Cornell community. Besides the exciting news that we get to go back to campus I got to do two new things in the office, the first being sitting in on a client-attorney meeting and the second was attending a local immigration attorney monthly meeting.

Some beautiful sunflowers I photographed on my morning jog!

I can’t go in depth into the attorney-client meeting but it was great to just get the experience of sitting in and seeing how to interact with clients. Getting to watch how the attorney interacts with clients is teaching me so much professionally. When I first got invited and sat in I was very nervous that I would look out of place or the client would be weirded out by me being there. After about 5 minutes I felt more comfortable and felt like I belonged there.

As for the attorney immigration meeting it is mainly attorneys that handle SIJ cases, which are special immigrant juvenile cases. The attorneys gather and give each other tips about certain cases or judges, they keep each other updated on weird cases or rulings, and give each other updates about each other’s firms. I love this community among the immigration attorneys and supporting each other especially during these trying times.

Besides work I have been going on my morning runs before work, taking my Spanish classes, studying for the LSAT and I just joined the Spanish departments book club. The Spanish department has decided to do a summer book club and it has partnered with Unión Latinx our Latin group on campus, which I am the Vice President of, and Spanish Adjunct, an additional Spanish class you can take during the year. We will start meeting virtually this Saturday and are reading, “The Poet X” about a Dominican teenager and her coming to age story. One of our Spanish professors will lead it which I am excited about so I can get back into the swing of academic conversations.

Currently trying all the local Austin coffee shops. Hoping I can try a good amount before the end of the summer.
