Week 7:
Resistance Is Greatest Just Before the Finish Line
Picture perfect scenery of the tasting I set up
July 16, 2022
Things are going well, especially with the new co-worker that arrived last week. We have continued to find common ground over little things such as TV series and sports. She has partly taken over my job of analyzing surveys, which, under normal circumstances, I would have liked, but not this time because even though July is not as busy a season as June was for us, my fellow employees and Andrea were still dealing with the fallout. That is also somewhat why I, just a sales assistant, was tasked with taking a few hours out of my day to train the new employee.
Her analyzing surveys now (which usually took up my whole morning before she arrived) was a bit of a bummer, but that was balanced out by the satisfaction I got out of training her. Yes, I did enjoy being a temporary mentor to her from time to time for many reasons, and one of them was that training someone who is quite older than me at 19 years old gave me a huge boost in confidence.
This week, I taught her how to talk to (potential) clients over the phone, describing the little things that you do not notice but do go a long way for people who could become our clients in the future. I taught her how to fill out an inquiry sheet with information of the person (on the phone), which is critical to our work as we need to follow up with that person for their event. Teaching her has been a valuable experience for me as this was the first time I had done this sort of thing.

Other than that, tasks such as inquiry sheets and phone calls with clients (which are always fun), event tents are on my agenda every day. Something out of the ordinary was that the senior wedding specialist tasked me with setting up the tasting. That meant I had to set up the tables in a perfect manner after choosing the dinnerware to serve (and to upsell) myself before the couple arrived to actually taste the food. I knew this was also going to mean me running up and down for numerous things, and setting up the whole tasting would take at least 40 minutes.
Being the open-minded person that I am, I took her up on her offer thinking that there is going to be something for me to learn even if I do not believe so at the moment. Plus, I am always up for a good challenge. Anyways, 17 minutes after I was given the task, Andrea asked me if I was okay because my sweat was literally pouring on the floor. I decided to complete my task as quick as possible, and I accomplished what I set out to do in more than half the time it regularly takes.
Completing this task, I realized something. If I do not worry about the technical details and just worry about getting it done as soon as possible, I present the project delegated to me in an accurate manner. This is visible in the picture given below, and now I can apply the model to different scenarios in life.

I could not ask for a better penultimate week, and now I am curious to see what the finale brings; but whatever it is, I will face it with precision and efficiency like I always do.
