French Education and Community Engagement at Alliance Francaise Saint Louis

Katie is engaging with the local community of University City and raising awareness about the French language and culture. This includes developing and preparing future events for local kids (ages 5 to 8) that introduce them to French language as well as the literary works of African and Island Francophone writers, which resonate with much of the University City kids community.

What I hope to get from this internship

During this internship, I hope to broaden my knowledge about the local community of University City, St. Louis by helping the Alliance Française create a teaching curriculum for children ages 6-12. The goal of this curriculum will be to introduce children to African-American and French African culture and teach them to investigate how to explore their cultural identities as it resonates with them. My goal in creating this curriculum is to broaden my perspective on how I resonate with these cultures by understanding the history, significance, and current state of African-American and French African culture.
