About me

Hello! My name is Tyler Lockaby and I am a politics major at Cornell College. My college journey is unique, as I am on the 3+3 pre-law track that Cornell College offers with the University of Iowa Law School. While I am not officially closing the door to exploring other career paths, I desire to become a family lawyer in the future, particularly out of my aspiration to help children who are in the foster care system. That said, this past year, I’ve developed an interest in the role politics plays in shaping policy that affects families and children.

What I hope to get from this internship

Through this internship, I hope to gain experience of the intersection of law, politics, and public service. After completing a variety of politics classes at Cornell College, I am eager to put my knowledge to practical use in the real world. I want to understand how a U.S. Senate state office operates and how elected officials communicate with their constituents on a day-to-day basis. This opportunity will allow me to build practical skills in communication, research, writing, and constituent services—essential skills for legal and public service careers. Finally, this internship will let me utilize my passion to help others.
