Week Seven and Eight:
Christensen & Ehret, LLP
July 18, 2015
Weeks 7 and 8 here seemed to blend together into one week due to all of the craziness that is happening in my life (we had the 4th of July of in Week 7, while I celebrated my 21st birthday and got to see my newborn nephew during Week 8).

Most of my Week 7 dealt with revising letters for my boss on behalf of a client. These letters were already drafted for me, but all I needed to do was format the letters in the manner that all Christensen/Ehret documents are formatted. This was much easier said than done for me, as my mentor kept correcting my mistakes. Nonetheless, he advised me to talk to one of the legal assistants here on staff, and one of them really helped me tremendously. She showed me why a lot of my formatting was “auto-correcting” (even though it wasn’t messed up the computer registered it as being flawed) and she helped me correct this in a pretty quick manner. In this 5-minute session with her rearranging the letter, I realized you can never be too proud to ask for help. If it weren’t for her, I would have thoroughly struggled to reach the desired Christensen/Ehret format.
I also had an attorney give me some valuable insight this week after I went to a deposition with him. After buying me lunch he shared his experience of his undergraduate career at Eastern Michigan and illuminated his path to Ohio State Law. He advised me to be proactive in my pursuit in law school (take an LSAT prep course, get applications done early, take visits to schools, etc). I think the biggest thing that I took away from our conversation is how important it is to plan out how I am going to pay for law school, and to go to law school “cheaply.” As I’ll have to pay for law school myself, I will definitely be using this attorney in the future to learn how to attend law school cheaply.
Week 8 was spent with me doing a lot of work for a specific negligence case. The documents that we requested from this particular party were finally delivered to our attorney, so once she got them, she made me copies and told me what to look for. Respecting attorney-client privilege, I can say that I looked for specific rules that employees are supposed to abide by, in hope that I would find something that illuminates that their employee acted in a manner which goes against his/her handbook.
As Week 8 was cut short due to a slight illness and pre-planned day off to see my nephew, I am hoping to refocus my attention to my ongoing research project for Week 9.
Peter is a Politics major from Naperville, Illinois.
