Week Six:
Christensen & Ehret, LLP
July 17, 2015
Being on a couple different projects, it was definitely very helpful to have a bit of a slower week. I’ve found that making “to-do” lists on my folders are helpful, as they remind me where I stopped working and what else needs to be worked on if I switch my focus on a case. This has been a pretty good system as I have avoided producing a lot of redundant work.
For one of our many negligence cases, an attorney and I brainstormed some concerns, questions, and comments that we felt were relevant in response to some depositions/interviews that had been conducted. Most of my Monday revolved around this, as I made significant strides at tackling a lot of these questions that needed research. Although we would love for research to be a simple Google plug-in and answer spit out, it requires much more digging than this. Nonetheless, after collecting documents from the different parties that I believed could help me, I finished my research for this case. This was and extremely relieving experience as I was beginning to get worried about the clutter on my desk.
I got to celebrate this with some tickets to the Cubs/Dodgers game, given to me so graciously by my mentor. It might be an understatement to say that the game was exciting, as there was a walk-off home run in the 10th inning! I very rarely watch baseball but watching the game on TV and actually seeing the game in person is so different.

Going to work for the rest of the week, I continued my search for an expert witness for one of our cases in addition to going in and out of a couple of depositions with attorneys.
The only task that I was given that I usually don’t do was to review a video that illustrates a fall for a case. In this I had to note the time of the fall, how the person fell, how were they acting before the fall, after the fall, etc. This was a pretty easy task, but required a lot of attention to detail. I learned it was better to include more than less in this situation, as certain facts can insinuate different potential causes.
So I got to enjoy a bit of a slower week, but looking at a tentative schedule, I believe the week before the holiday will involve a lot of running around.
