Farewell Iowa City

This is my last week here at the hospital and I have to say it’s bittersweet. While I’m happy to be able to go home and see my family, I am going to miss the people I’ve met here. I will especially miss my mentor, and I can honestly say Jess is one of the nicest people I have ever met. He was so accommodating my whole internship. To Jess, this experience was about professional growth, and it was important to him for me to experience the profession I want to be in.

With that being said, being able to talk to Dr. Moser solidified that I actually want to do a doctoral program. Jess allowed me to go to the eating disorder wing whenever I had down time in his lab. Being able to converse with a clinical psychologist from the eating disorder program really helped clarify the fact that I do want to work with eating disorder patients after my doctoral program.  I wavered back and forth for a while but I think a PhD program is the best move for my career goals.

This week was especially fun because as a lab, we all went out bowling. Everyone brought a few guests, and we had a great time. Even though I don’t really care for bowling, as I’m not good at it at all, I had a blast. We decided to have a prize for the best bowler and a prize for the worst bowler. The best bowler by far was Jess, and Oluchi and I were neck and neck for the worst.

On my very last day, Jess bought me and those in the lab that weren’t busy ice cream. We all sat outside, ate ice cream, and talked about my time at my internship and other miscellaneous things. It was a nice way to wrap up my internship at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.
