Week 6:
Lab Celebration

This week I began working on the functional and T1 imaging in Bipolar disorder study (T1 rho). For this study, I am responsible for data clean-up. This entails me going through about 90 subjects’ files. While looking at each subject’s file, I have to simultaneously look at REDcap. REDcap is an online database where the information from the files should be already entered. I make sure that the information from the files matches the online database. I imagine this will take a while because most subjects have multiple visits and I must check every visit a subject has.

One thing our lab did this which was almost was celebrate one of lab members’ accomplishments. To celebrate we all ate Chinese takeout together. Our lab member Oluchi passed her USMLE step 3. The USMLE step 3 is the final United States medical licensing examination. Though I had met Oluchi week 1 and talked to her multiple times, this was the week that I learned amazing details about her life. She had degrees that, other than Dr. Fiedorowicz, no one knew about. She told me that she was already a doctor and practiced for many years in Uganda and then Botswana. In both countries, she was a general family practitioner and she worked with people infected with HIV. Right now Oluchi is working on her MPH in Epidemiology (disease control).  From having an everyday conversation with Oluchi you would never know any of this about her because she is so modest. She is so inspiring to me because it seems like no matter where she goes, she works hard to get what she wants. That drive is something I work hard to have every day.
