Week 11:
Creede Repertory

Slater Fellow in Arts Administration & Theatre

Creede Repertory Theatre | Creede, Colorado

August 15, 2017

My internship is over and I don’t know what to say. I am currently on my way back home and then I am going back to Cornell immediately after. My last week was jam-packed with some great moments, including a last potluck get together with the wonderful ladies pictured below. My front of house crew was so important to me at CRT. I got to know a lot of people but FOH was always a group where I was welcome and belonged. I could ask them for advice and help at any time. And they were always supportive if I was having trouble running box office selling tickets. As mentioned in many of my other posts, patron service can be stressful and people can sometimes be tough to handle but we could always talk about it and reassure each other at our weekly meetings. We were truly a team and I appreciate everything they did for.

All of front of house modeling CRT merchandise. I couldn’t be there for the photo but they edited me in. I am gonna miss my great FOH team a lot as I go back to school (photo and editing courtesy of Katie Regan)

With Cornell theatre, my focuses are stage management and improv and I haven’t really gotten to work in stage management all summer. I have been busy working on so many other things I thought I wasn’t going to get a chance to even shadow a rehearsal. But last minute, I was asked to be on book (which means saying a line if any actor forgets theirs) for a rehearsal of General Store. They have so many shows running at once and General Store is a huge show they were shorthanded and they knew I had experience in stage management. I was so happy to be asked and I got to be helpful as well as watch a professional rehearsal. I am glad I got to squeeze in everything I wanted to do this summer!

Alex Polzen paints a little square for each show that opens and it is revealed at our opening night party. This is the final product as CRT opens it’s last show. I am so proud to be a part of this great process. (phot courtesy of Sky Bradley)

I spent my last night in Creede, Colorado performing for a sold out house in CRT’s professional improv group Boomtown! I was very nervous to perform for people that had very high expectations as well as my friends and coworkers excited to see me. But I trusted my instincts and the people I was working with and had an amazing show. We did an hour show including improvised songs. I got to do a scene with my supervisor about two coworkers. His character was sad my character was leaving and he wanted to keep the stapler my character brought which was funny cause I actually brought my own office supplies to my internship. We sang an entire song about his character choosing between my character and the stapler. It was truly a night to remember! I am so thankful I got to perform with them and I am bringing back techniques I learned with them to my improv group at Cornell.

My last night here in the mountenous little town of Creede. I say goodbye the the lights of the theater and the friends that I have made. For now.

Well, I guess this is closing night on my time in Creede. It has been quite a run. Like one big show, it had a bumpy start then it ran smoothly. I got into a groove that I had to break and I finally settled into an amazing company and an amazing group of people. The theater world is a small network and I will cross paths with many of these people as I advance my career. I want to thank the Cornell Fellows program and its donors for this opportunity and everyone who supported my work out here. This was such a formative experience for me as a theater artist and I am ready to take on the next school year with the knowledge CRT has equipped me with. Thank you all!
