Week 5 – We go ALL OUT

As you might have gathered we like to go all out. What can I say? We are theater folk. That viking ship is made of an accumulation of all our cardboard as well as sweat, blood, and duct tape. They used that to march down mainstreet in the 4th of July Parade.
The little town of Creede has hit its busiest week, the 4th of July! This is when people decide to go on vacation and go camping and it is when we work double time. To top that, due to the immense amount of people entering our town both cell service and internet are not to be relied on. Our one cell tower can’t handle that much pressure and neither can we. The Box Office lines were out the door with people needing tickets or asking questions. All that said it was amazing. That is when I finally understood why there is a theater out in the middle of who-what-where Colorado. And to tippy top that I was able to participate in my first pride parade. It was small and mostly consisted of theater people but it was so fun! We all got dressed and marched down our one main street waving at all the visitors. Then we came back to our housing to play the ball game made up by old company members: 4-Pie.

For the 4th of July our parking lots fill with food trucks and vendors. It felt like our own fair and I got to be a part and talk about what CRT does! Johamy, the education director, and I set up a small booth with programs, pamphlets, and face paint! I painted so many faces and I am actually considering doing it more. I have designed makeup for multiple shows and enjoy dabbling on myself and friends all the time and face paint was no different. I loved seeing the faces of kids who got turned into cats or batman or anything they wanted and we were able to talk about CRT’s education programs and shows they could see. In such a small community it is so important to talk to people face to face and tell them how great our theater is.

AND THE FIREWORKS! How can we forget?! The special thing about these fireworks was that we were so close it was right above our heads. And we could see the fire technicians setting them off and putting out accidental fires. And CRT provided the music and speaker systems to go along with the show. We have such a huge influence on this community and we always try to help out and use our skills for good!

Rosemary is a double major in theatre and personnel management from Los Alamos, New Mexico.
