Week 6 – Communication is KEY
July 11, 2017
This weekend I assisted in hosting two fundraising projects. Sean Thompson is a large local celebrity and a growing Broadway actor. He was recently in Sunset Boulevard alongside Glenn Close. Before his big role he worked at CRT! So we organized a fundraising event where he sang some his favorite numbers. So we had to prepare for a one night event but it still had to the aspects of a show like lights, sound, marketing. On top of prep for this performance I made signs for our second part of the fundraiser. Because Sean is so popular we held a silent auction offering chances to do activities with him like “Take a hike” or “See a show”.

As I have mentioned a of couple times, CRT is a small company, but sometimes that makes it hard to make sure everything gets done because everyone has a million things on their plate. This is why communication is crucial to everything we do, no matter how little we think it is. The signage pictured above was not the original signs I had designed and created. Before they featured more pictures of Sean with text on top and I set it up completely and then asked others what they thought. With the black background and array of pictures we discovered that it looked more like a memorial for someone who was still alive and SINGING!

I didn’t know what to do at this point cause it had taken me all morning to get the signs printed and framed. I then asked long time company member, Kate, (who works in marketing and is an actor and improvisor in 4 of our shows this season) what she thought I should do. She quickly jumped at the chance to help. She showed me that she used Adobe Spark to make most of her online posts. She taught me the importance of a cohesive look when marketing, no matter the venue. Kate used the same color palette and font she uses for most of what CRT does marketing-wise and it made it look so great! It is most definitely something I had not thought to do and just proves the importance of communicating on everything and to not be afraid to ask for criticism or give it.
